Inspired by a post on one of my favourite blogs 'outsapop' I decided to make a bag from a leather skirt that I thrifted some time ago with a view to ebaying, but never got round to it....
Above are some of the progress pictures, the pocket inside looks like a little mouth when the bag is open!

Smile at colour
This picture really makes me smile, I love anything with a rainbow of colour in it.
This particular image is from one of my favourite websites / blogs 'The Purl Bee' which has loads of amazing tutorials and inspiring ideas, I always love spending time browsing through the projects and looking at the online shop, if only they had one in London......

Weekend culture - Walking in my mind
I went to see the Walking in my mind exhibition at the Southbank yesterday, which was the first bit of art culture I have taken on in a couple of years (my mother, the artist, would be horrified).
It was quite interesting, I wouldnt say that I loved all of it, some of it was a little bit much for my taste but it is there to provoke reaction so in that sense it worked I suppose.
One of my favourite artists Yoshitomo Nara was part of the exhibition and his installation was by far my favourite, he had created a little house full of his artwork and his own belongings, some things from his childhood and other collected items, which was wonderful for me to see as I have loved his work for about 10 years now and getting that close to his work was really nice, I really enjoyed seeing his sketches in real life as I have only ever seen them in print until that point.
(image below found via the exhibition website).
The other part I liked was by Yayoi Kusama, who had installed a bright red room with white dots all over and giant red dotty inflatable shapes inside, then you could go outside to a bright green astroturfed area on the roof where there were more red dotty shapes that you could touch and climb on.
It was such a beautiful day that I took these outdoor pictures with my phone and they came out remarkably well considering!

The embodiment of the 70's - Freddie King
All I can say about this is........COLLAR.
It actually goes over his shoulders and down his arm.
I also want to give special mention to the keyboard player, he made my brain hurt with his seventies-ness. Genius.
The music is pretty darned good too, impressive geetar playing.

Dr Martens
Hmm, let me start by saying that the wonderous boots I was speaking of in
the previous post - were not so wonderous upon arrival.
They looked WAY more clumpy than in the picture and made my feet look
enormous, not unlike a golf club in fact, also as soon as I had them on I
looked like an extra straight out of 'This is England'.
Not a look I wish to portray in every day life!
Oh well, I guess I'm going to have to stick to ye old faithfuls and come to
terms with the fact I'm a platforms kind of girl.
You cant say I didn't try......

Wishlist
I don't know what has come over me, but I seem to have been
struck down with a shoe fetish!
All of a sudden all I can see is shoes - boots - sandals, you name it, I
want it.
Here are my faves from today (!) I'm having to sit on my credit card to
avoid maxing it out.
Topshop
These platforms could well be this autumn's version my patent beauties, at £70 they are not cheap but with the amount of wear I have had from the current pair for the same price they are a veritable bargain :)
Not usually a brogue fan but I'm beginning to realise that practicality and a smart appearance could well be very appealing as an occasional stand in for the obligatory platforms.....
Dr Martens
The Gia
LOVE these - and they are only £35 (inc P+P), I they would look amazing with
some skinny jeans and a colourful t-shirt, scarf combo.
In fact - I think they might look good with most of my current wardrobe.
The Darcie
Ok - I would never normally like a shoe / boot that looks like this, its way
too clumpy and severe and frankly ugly - but for some reason I am in love
with it and verging on obsessed.
What makes it worse is that it is only £70 and you just know it will be
incredibly comfy, and if you buy direct from their website at the moment
there is a special 10% discount and free delivery for orders over £50, which
means it is only £63.
Oh yes, and on the (amazing) Opening Ceremony website where I found them,
which is in the U.S they are $200, I have just done the currency conversion
on that and it means that they are still £118, which is even more reason to
'Buy British' if you live in the UK - deal-a-rama!
With those incentives you'd be mad not to.
Now I demand a payment from DM's for my great promotional justification!

Shoe obsession Part 2 - the definition of frustration.
I wish I hadnt seen these, I love them, they are perfect, if only I could stop thinking that everything I own would look perfect with them.
They are by Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony.
Obviously they are crazy expensive and sold out which helps a tiny bit.
Damn.
Well Stud-ied
Check out this awesome and original tutorial by Gennie from Maison des Reveries blog.
I love it, really gets me thinking what i could do with several hundred studs....must put in an order!

Tara McPherson
Tara McPherson is my favourite artist, I own several of her prints and I never tire of looking at them, the majority of them are beautifully printed band posters with really bright inks which I love, the detail is fantastic and I love her illustrative style, plus she has a hilarious tattoo on her finger, got to love a girl with a comedy tattoo :)
Thats her on the left, but I am equally loving that the girl on the right has on one of my favourite necklaces, but that's another story.
I was very lucky to have purchased these at a time when the dollar was pretty weak against the pound so I bought LOADS, it was a pretty well executed obsession at the time, apart from having to pay the import duty...whoops! That was an expensive little surprise....
Anyway, here are the prints in my collection, my wonderful treasure for all to see ;-)
